The idea of publishing a specialized magazine on cardiology was finally formed after the next Congress of the Russian scientific society of cardiology (VNOK) in 1994. At the end of 1996 the first issue of Russian journal of Cardiology was published, and Editor-in-Chief of the journal was Prof. Viktor A. Lyusov. The journal was published with a periodicity of 6 issues per year. In 2011 the magazine was headed by the President of the Russian society of cardiology (CSC) Eugene V. Shlyakhto. Since 2014 the journal is published with a periodicity of 12 issues per year, and also has additional English-language editions.
