Address to the readers. Russian Journal of Cardiology. 2021;26(3S):7-8.

Dear colleagues and friends!

A year ago, at the Russian Society of Cardiology Congress in Kazan, the cardiology community had to get acquainted with the first issue of Russian Journal of Cardiology. Education. However, all plans were spoiled by the pandemic, because the Congress urgently switched to an online format. Nevertheless, thanks to the Russian Society of Cardiology management, many readers received this first issue in the traditional format.

Over the past year, we have managed to form a great team, which today presents the fifth issue of this journal, and I am proud to work side by side with them. Of course, the journal would not have been published without the active attention of cardiology community. Practically every day the deputy editors-in-chief, executive editors and our highly respected reviewers discuss the papers coming to the editorial office.

The latest achievements of world cardiology are presented in the journal. We strive to accept only the most deserving works for publication. One of our goals is to promote domestic publications in the global scientific community. We were able to implement one of the main ideas discussed during development of concept — a digitized version of the journal, published in parallel in two languages. Furthermore, all published articles are included in the Scopus database.

Our team has many plans. We see the Russian Journal of Cardiology. Education as not just a journal in the traditional sense, but an education platform for both cardiologists and related specialists, which we plan to create on the journal’s website.

We hope for your future support and are pleased to present a new issue of the journal.

Yours sincerely,
Professor Dmitry V. Duplyakov

Dear colleagues!

Your attention is presented to the next — anniversary — issue of the Russian Journal of Cardiology. Education. Its subject matter, as always, is varied.

The issue opens with a brief overview of the new European Society of Cardiology guidelines on cardiovascular disease prevention, valvular heart disease, acute and chronic heart failure, cardiac pacing and resynchronization therapy, which were presented at the beginning of September 2021.

The data on heart failure prevalence in Saint Pe - tersburg in 2019 are considered based on the analysis of the integrated database of electronic health records. The continuity of heart failure healthcare is discussed.

In addition, the following issues are considered: retention of knowledge on blood pressure measurement; management strategies for myocardial in - farction patients with delayed hospital admission; review on improving behavioral risk factors in the primary prevention of cardiovascular diseases; approaches to modern diagnosis and treatment of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.

Pavlova TV discussed the interpretation of evidence obtained with different approaches, which is extremely important for assessment of their strength.

The section “Case reports” presents an analysis of the hemodynamic response to orthostatic stress in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, a case of Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy in a heart transplant recipient, and case series of familial hypercholesterolemia.

I am sure that the published materials will be use - ful to a wide range of readers — health professionals, specialists in evidence-based medicine, clinical re - searchers, and practicing physicians.

Sincerely,
Head of the Department of Fundamental and Clinical Issues of Thrombosis in Noncommunicable Diseases of the National Medical Research Center for Therapy and Preventive Medicine,
